A FLAT roof caught fire at a home in Dawlish yesterday evening, Saturday.

Fire control received a call from the occupant of a house reporting a flat roof attached to their property was on fire on Henty Close, Dawlish, shortly before 6.30pm yesterday, Saturday.

Three fire appliances from Dawlish, Teignmouth and Middlemoor along with a supporting officer were sent to deal with the blaze.

A Fire Control spokesperson said: ‘The crews confirmed the fire was within a flat roof which was spreading through fascias towards the roof.

‘Crews got straight to work with two breathing apparatus, one hose reel jet and one safety jet.

‘An update from crews states the fire was spreading to the soffits, breathing apparatus had been increased to four and HRJ and safety jets had been increased.

‘Crews were also using small tools and a thermal imaging camera to assist in cutting away to extinguish fire.’

By shortly after 7.30pm the crews confirmed the breathing apparatus had been stood down and good progress was being made cutting away.

In a final update the crews reports that the fire was in a two storey property measuring 10m x 8m. Fire started in first floor balcony which spread to joists, fascias and soffits.

‘Crews used a total of four breathing apparatus, two HRJ, two Safety jets, one TIC, triple extension ladder and small tools. This fire was confirmed as accidental.’
